Opus XXX

Located in a building in the old Milan, in the northwest part of the city, the house owned by architect Maura Pinto, co-founder of the Opus atelier studio, is the result of a delicate renovation. All of the apartment’s original features–the Italian herringbone floor, the stucco ceilings, the doors, the moldings on the fixtures and the ornate cast-iron radiators–have been carefully preserved and restored. It was on this canvas that the final design was then built, which is based on finding a balance between the pre-existing elements, which are more decorative in taste, and the introduction of a simple language of textural walls, furniture with clean lines and textures and materials with neutral colors.

The dwelling, which has a small, compact floor plan, turns its largest spaces to the south, where the warm light coming in through the large windows enhances the textural texture used for the walls present throughout the house. The entrance is a small compass on which all the doors to the main rooms of the house are located. The different rooms house furniture in most of them custom-designed by the studio, such as the dining table, coffee table, sofa, bedside tables, and bed. These are interspersed with a selection of historic furniture and art pieces. The kitchen and bathroom were also made to design and embellished by the introduction of purple calacatta marble.
