The goal of the design for the multimedia room at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart was to transform the space of a small classroom into a multifunctional environment that can meet the diverse needs of the university. The classroom was divided into three camps: a stage, an auditorium and a director’s box.
The stage area, created through a raised area, has the ability to change in relation to the necessary scenery through the introduction of a backdrop made of removable panels. The stage can be used as a room for face-to-face lectures (thanks to the help of a removable desk), as an area for multimedia projections, thanks to the green screen or a led wall both concealed by a system of sliding doors located on the back of the platform and removable as needed, and finally as an area for small talks or performances.
In the stalls area, the passage of the systems between the stage and the control room has been enclosed within a paneling that runs around the entire perimeter of the room, making the wiring invisible to view. The room used for directing features a large window that allows operators a full view of the stage dynamics, and at the same time, a mixed system of walls and sound-absorbing curtains was provided to ensure adequate sound insulation.
The choice of the color blue used in the facings, flooring and upholstery refers, as an iconic and identifying element, to the prevailing color of the University’s logo. The seats are specially custom-designed and made of solid wood.
